Frequently Asked Questions

Navigating the complexities of emergency vehicle upfitting can be difficult. Rely on our expertise to guide you through the process.

Why Should I Choose American Emergency Products?

Why should I bring in an outside upfitter? I do vehicle upfitting in house.
By contracting with us, you ensure the highest standards of vehicle quality. Our techs do one thing—build emergency vehicles. On the other hand, fleet personnel usually have multiple tasks. It is not uncommon for them to be pulled from one job to work on another having not completed the first job. When they return, they have to remember where they left off. That means time lost and the potential for mistakes.
What makes American Emergency Products' wiring solutions better?
The quality of our wiring sets our work apart from other upfitters. Our Patrol Power emergency vehicle wiring harnesses are designed for specific vehicles. They do not include any wire splices and provide their own fuse panel.
Is your work warrantied?
Our work is warrantied for the life of the vehicle. We stand by the quality of our work and know your officers' lives depend on it. The work we do on every vehicle that leaves our facility is covered under our warranty as long as the vehicle is on the road.
What can I expect as far as scheduling?
Once we receive your PO and vehicles, we begin work immediately. We operate under 5S, lean manufacturing conditions, ensuring production is efficient, scheduled and timely.

Technical Questions

How do I turn off the emergency equipment in my patrol vehicle that was upfitted with a Patrol Power?
Depress the button on the circuit breaker located on or near the Patrol Power which will then shut off all the equipment.
How do I identify the wiring inside the vehicle to install the fuse in the proper location in the Patrol Power?
Look at the inside of the fuse lid and the color and label will match the location on the actual label.
Why is the solenoid hot that is located on the Patrol Power?
It is a special solenoid that is made to be run for an extended amount of time and will produce heat without any problems. Note: The solenoid was discontinued in 2007. All new panels now come equipped with a high amp non-metallic relay.
Does the CV Patrol Power have the same wiring, size and label as the Expedition, Tahoe and F-series trucks?
Yes, since it uses the same internals but has a different style case for easy mounting.
Where does the Patrol Power mount on a 2006 Tahoe?
It mounts on the passenger side firewall using the factory fender brace bolts.
Where does the Patrol Power mount on a 2006 F350 Super Duty?
It mounts on the driver side over top the factory ABS brake unit using the factory bolts.
Why is a UPKM-3 used for Door or Park Kill?
It will take the signal that is received from the door or park kill and turn it into a true ground signal to make the system work properly.
Why will a power tamer work without an ignition source?
When the power tamer senses the voltage above 12.8 volts it will turn on.
Will the emergency lights work until the vehicles battery goes dead?
Once the vehicles battery voltage drops below 10.6 volts, the power tamer will shut off and the lights will shut down.
How can the programming be changed in a Code 3 LED X light?
While the light is on, touch the white wire to ground for about 2 seconds and when pulled away it will then change patterns.
